FAQs

  • GTFO was born from the idea that there are folks that need a safe place to learn, grow and connect while outside. It started with a survey and quickly grew into a beautiful community of women, non-binary and gender-fluid folks doing rad things.

GTFO is an events-based organization that seeks to build confidence, capacity and community through adventure.

  • Events are priced on a case-by-case basis, usually with a free option. We ultimately are just trying to cover the costs of the events and understand that price may be a barrier to some. We are committed to making GTFO accessible to all and understand the financial constraints that many face - for this reason, we have a number of free events during the year and use a portion of the revenue generated as aid for those who cannot afford the fees. If you’d like to attend an event but don’t have the funds - please email us at info@gtfoanb.ca

You do NOT have to be a member to participate. We don’t have a membership structure as we hope all womxn will feel welcome and want to reduce as many barriers to participation as possible.

  • No. GTFO is a not-for-profit organization that is volunteer-run. We rely on revenue from events to cover our costs and the volunteers that believe in the mission to help run events. If you’re interested in volunteering - please get in touch!

  • OF COURSE! GTFO is open to all skill levels and abilities. It is meant to be a safe space to learn new skills while getting to know other humans in the community.

In some rare cases, there may be events where a certain level of comfort is necessary (for example an overnight paddling trip) - in these instances, we will be sure to let the participants know and work with you to get you to that point if desired.

  • GTFO is for folks that are 19+. There are some events where it will be appropriate to bring family members (if they are over the age of 14), but generally, we say 19+ due to the nature of some of the outings.

We have ideas for youth programming in the future but unfortunately don’t have the capacity to run both at this time.

  • Please check out our blog post on dogs and complete the self-assessment to see if your furry pals might be a good fit for an outing. Ultimately, we prioritize the safety and wellbeing of the humans attending our events.

  • We believe there is a need for a safe space for folks to get outdoors together. We’ve encountered a lot of questions about this - mostly positive, but some negative. Nicola wrote a blog post to address this - you can read it here. (*Please note this article was in the early days when GTFO was using language that wasn’t as inclusive. We have since changed our language as it aligns with our values and mission to be inclusive to ALL marginalized genders including non-binary and gender fluid.)

  • As the number of events we run increases, we find ourselves dealing with an increasing number of requests for refunds or event deferrals. We understand that life is busy, and things happen, so here is our official refund policy:

When signing up for our events through Eventbrite, we state that we allow "Refunds up to 7 days before the event.” Within 7 days, if you are unable to attend an event, we absolutely allow you to transfer the registration to someone else. Please message us, and post on the Facebook event to offer your spot to anyone looking. We will do our best to share these posts and help you fill your spot.

GTFO is not a for-profit business. We operate on tight profit margins, and the small profits we make go to funding our Give the F Back fund.

So you can’t come to an event?

    • 7 days before an event; request a refund through Eventbrite, and send us a message

    • within a week of the event (if the event is not full); offer the spot to a friend, or check the event discussion and post on our Facebook page (there might be someone looking for a spot).

    • within a week (if the event is full); message us and we will contact people on the waitlist!

    • an hour before the event when you realize you’re running late and won’t make it; message us so we’re not waiting for you, but unfortunately we can’t offer a refund at this time.

At the end of the day, we want to be accommodating because we really do want you to GTFO with us, but also need to cover our costs to be sure we can continue to provide top-quality events. Thanks for understanding!
